![img_6123 Carib Sea Rock swarmed by Ramshorns and baby Mystery Snails. The rock looks great and adds calcium to the water, as well as providing a large surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow on. However, if there are too many animals, the rock will begin absorbing waste like a sponge. I had to take it out of the tank. Boiling it should clear up the problem.](https://i0.wp.com/fishzombie.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/img_6123.jpg?w=172&h=129&ssl=1)
![img_6184 The shrimp is a Macrobrachium Assamense or Red Claw Shrimp, just after she shed her old shell. (I’m assuming this one is a girl because she has no red claws.) I’d ordered three, initially, in the hopes of starting a colony–one male and two females. Red Claw males are peaceful toward females and they live together in groups. Unfortunately, when they arrived, there were only two specimens left alive in the bag, The third specimen was composed of only a pair of eyeballs. Shrimp are notorious cannibals.](https://i0.wp.com/fishzombie.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/img_6184.jpg?w=172&h=129&ssl=1)

inGolden Mystery Snails, about 1/2″ in size. They grow bigger faster in warmer conditions. I’ve found this out by keeping several tanks with different temperatures. The ones in the 70 F tank are the biggest. These snails are the result of a cross between a Golden female named “Gary” and a Violet male named “Romeo”. The other color variations they produced are Ivory, Brown, Black, Dark Purple, Light Purple with stripes, and Light Blue.

Shipping Mystery Snails
For most shipments, I use a 7″x 7″ x 6″ USPS Priority Mail box lined with Styrofoam. The Styrofoam helps make the box sturdy and also provides insulation from heat or cold. Priority Mail boxes typically get delivered within 2-3 days of being shipped. It’s important that someone is present on the day of delivery to reduce the amount of time the box may sit outside, exposed to the weather! Snails may die if they get too cold or too hot.
The snails are selected and placed in a double bag, filled with a small amount of tank water. A plant clipping and a paper towel are also inside the bag. I include an extra 1-2 snails with each order, just in case.
Mystery Snails breathe air through their siphons, so they need to be able to surface. The towel provides them with an area where they can crawl out of the water to breathe. The bags are filled with oxygen and sealed with a rubber band, and placed in additional insulation (paper, bubble wrap and/or packing peanuts) inside the Styrofoam lined box. The seams of the box are taped shut and it’s ready to to ship! The boxes typically arrive in 2-3 days.
I ship only on Mondays and Tuesdays to prevent delays. Extra time spent in transit can seriously compromise a snail’s health and may sometimes even lead to death.
My DOA [Dead on Arrival] policy is as follows:
Sometimes, animals become stressed in transit and may die.
In the event an animal arrives DOA, please contact me as soon as possible on Amazon or by email at fishzombie7@gmail.com and I will send you a REPLACEMENT AT NO COST, no questions asked.
